Were staying at the Allegro resort . It’s toward the south end of the island, meaning short boat rides to the better dive sites. This is an all inclusive trip. Two tank boat dives both days. We will be staying in Friday Harbor . Same lodging as last year,very affordable .
We picked weekends with minimal tidal exchange . Most dives are wall dives or good structure with lots of color and life. Contact us for more info . Space is limited to 12 divers . This is a nice getaway for the non diver also . Plenty to see and do.

2009 Pumpkin Carve / Oct.OWD Dives

We would like to thank everyone who attended this year’s annual pumpkin carving weekend. As always, there were some interesting entries. The bbq and costume party made for some good socializing. Laurie became the oyster bbq queen . Not sure if she volunteered or other wise. Regardless, the effort was well received. Congratulations to the new group divers that completed their certifications. Hopefully we will see you participating in next year’s event .

Camping and diving at Salt Creek Park Sept. 2009

Most of us showed up early Friday morning at Salt Creek Camp Grounds . Turned out to be a good move . We secured the sites we needed . Within 20 minutes the sites all filled up. I haven’t done a whole lot of camping the last few years , but found new interest in it . Socializing by the camp fire added to the whole experience . It would be nice to have a camp caddy for future trips (to set up and break down all the stuff) . Salt Creek is right on the Juan De Fuca Stait,just west of Port Angeles. There is a large kelp bed area that provides at neat environment to dive in . This area is a marine preserve . We made a couple dives there Saturday . On Sunday, after breaking down all that camp stuff and packing it away, we decided to rinse off the dive gear by making a couple dives at Lake Cresent . The first site we dove at was right off the high way. The main feature was a shear rock wall that exceeded our depth limits . The stucture coupled with tropical vis made this enjoyable way to maintain my equipment . Darla and drove back to reality after that . the rest of the group made another dive featuring an old sunken barge . We really enjoyed ourselfs, including the company of everyone . I would suggest that we plan more of this type of activity in the future . I am open to suggestions.

Fiji Trip 2008

Once again Beqa Lagoon resort provided our group with great diving and topside relaxation we had experienced five years prior. The meals (DESSERTS!!!) were fantastic. The new owners have enlarged the pool considerably, with great views of the sunsets. The beach front rooms were made more private with fenced in gardens between them . They also each came with your own outdoor soaking tub.

About midway through our stay , eight of us took a day off from diving ,to go golfing. It started with a boat ride to the main island, followed by a 10 min drive to the golf resort . It’s called The Pearl, which happens to be a PGA course. Not only was it very scenic, it was a bit challenging. I can’t speak for the other players , but my score card wasn’t worth keeping.

I believe everyone went home with good memories from their vacation.

Channel Islands Trip 2008

This years trip we were graced with perfect conditions for 4 straight days. The seas were calm, and the sun was out the entire time. Lobsters are not real easy to get, but several were brought aboard. Due to the conditions we were able to dive off some islands that are not always accessible. Over the four days we dove San Miguel, Santa Rosa, and Santa Cruz.

We have another trip scheduled for April 2009 that will visit another group of the Channel? Islands.

Pumpkin Weekend!

As we neared closer to the weekend it seemed like more and more people were getting excited and signed up for the underwater pumpkin carving contest! I’m happy to say it went off without a hitch (we didn’t even give in to Butch’s bribes for first place in the contest)! Several people dressed up for the awards and there was certainly no shortage in food.

We also had an open water class getting certified on that weekend, they were able to witness everyone’s excitement about this annual event. The weather held up for us as did visibility. Mikel and I took the class up to Sund Rock on Sunday where we were able to find multiple Wolf Eels on the South Wall at varying depths. On our second dive Mikel and I kept up with the students as we headed towards the North Wall and ended up finding a (little) Giant Pacific Octopus!

If you happen to see these three in the shop make sure to congratulate them on completing their Open Water Certifications!

While i still think i should have won… i will bow and let the first, second and third place winners bask in their glory. A look at this years winners…

We were also able to celebrate a great diving achievement for a student whom i have known from the time she first walked into the store. Corinne hit her big 50th dive on Pumpkin Weekend, not only did she do that but at the moment she took her 50th plunge she also became a Master Diver! She has put a lot of hard work into diving in the past year in order to do this. Becoming a Master Diver entails first becoming certified and than moving through the rank of Advanced Diver (4 Specialties and 24 dives) and going through her Stress? & Rescue course and finally completing her 50th Dive! Congratulations Corinne!
